Success Story of Mahaboobnagar Farmer Through Pig Farming
Anjaneeyulu, an educated man from scheduled caste community completed his B.Tech. Even though he got a software job opportunity with good package, he had chosen piggery as his livelihood. His journey of up keeping piggery is incredible.
He has interest in pig farming since he was 7 years old by watching and helping his father, as their family occupation is piggery. After completing his higher studies, he came back to nurture his own family occupation.
The farm of Anjaneyulu started with 60 animals initially, later to 100, 200 and currently 500 animals. He reared crossbred animals of Indigenous sows and Large White Yorkshire boars.
He used hotel garbage and broken rice to minimize input costs. Nearly 4-5 kgs per day per fattening pig and along with broken rice from 45 days prior to marketing has been fed. Thus, the market weight of more than 100 kgs has been achieved by 10-12 months age.
The biosecurity measures and deworming for every 2 months and by vaccinating them regularly prevented the incidence of several commonly occurring diseases.
He practiced pig farming in 2 batches and currently gaining around 10-12 lakh rupees per batch as profit, which made it a quite sustainable livelihood option.
