  • Sheep and Goat Success Story

A young farmer named Bunga Saideswara Rao from Jagannadhapuram village, Chintakani mandal, Khammam district with a degree started farming two years ago. Being the person of Yadava family, their caste profession is sheep rearing. In the past, his father was an extensive outdoor sheep breeder. With the increase in the scarcity of cattle fodder, the risk in rearing has increased. So, he started semi-intensive sheep farming with the encouragement of his father with 50 sheep and today he is rearing 150 sheep and earning a net profit of 50 thousand per month. He reared sheep at his workable capacity. Income has been promising by selling lambs for every 3 months, although flock growth has been somewhat slow and reduced risk in rearing.

Sheep is reared in a semi-intensive manner i.e., for four to five hours every day, the sheep are grazed within a radius of 4 kilometers in the village and the rest of the time they are grazing in the sheds. Because of this, the animals are active in his farm. This farmer is growing fodder in 2 acres and is growing super napier, hedge lucerne and stylo scabra grasses. A 5 HP chaff cutter is used for chaffing the grass.

At present there are 150 sheep in the farm and their kids are reared till they reach the age of 3 months and only the rams are sold. The young farmer says that due to this the income is not less than 50 thousand per month. Thus, growing semi-intensive method gives good results at low cost.

Thus, the young farmer proved that with continuous perseverance, determination and dedication, you can achieve success in any field.
